What young person would not want to appear in the charming Buzz Lightyear costume? Even though it is primarily aimed at the male population, this outfit can still be worn with pleasure by the female contingent if that is what they want to wear.
The Toy Story animated movies that Pixar have certainly made popular have, once again, captured the attention of boys and girls, young and young-at-heart, with their new release, Toy Story 3. This latest epic story of a boxful of discarded toys has really come to life through the use of CGI.
Prime Directive
Until Buzz Lightyear threw in his lot with the rest of the toys Buzz Lightyear's reason for being was his prime directive - to eliminate the evil Emperor, Zurg. As the Disney Pixar story unfolds, Buzz Lightyear reveals that he commanded the Space Rangers, an invincible force that fought on behalf of the Intergalactic Alliance.
Buzz, as their Captain, was responsible for the safety of the Gamma Quadrant - until Buzz Lightyear met the toys, was befriended by Woody and his pals and fell in love with Jessie, the yodeling cowgirl. From then on, Buzz Lightyear's fate was sealed: his prime directive now became the safety of his toy friends.
Retro Space Suit
The Buzz Lightyear outfit is loosely based on a retro-designed space suit, with white being the main color always associated with Buzz's costume, completed with a light-green trim. This ensemble appears to be clean and bright and, for a child, is easy to wear and have fun whilst wearing it.
The actual bodysuit is screen-printed on the front so that it looks like everybody imagines a real space-suit to look like. The outfit is completed with a light green globe for a helmet and a purple hood that Buzz wears beneath his helmet.
All the various controls are found in various locations on the front of Buzz's costume. This includes the communicator to contact Star Command HQ, and the flight initiator. There is also a button to prepare the Buzz backpack for wings to open in readiness for ignition of the booster engines.
A mini-computer is located on the wrist of the Buzz Lightyear costume. This features a laser cannon, speakers and all the essentials that the Captain of the Gamma Quarter would find essential in his fight against the evil activities of Zurg.
Additions to the Buzz Lightyear Outfit
The deluxe costume features an EVA foam chest panel, together with foam guards for both arms and legs. You can also purchase the foam cuffs as well. These are sold separately but, to my mind, they should be included in the deluxe version of the costume as they are an integral part of Buzz Lightyear's costume.
This is where the mini-computer can be found, as well as various special effects and relevant sounds plus three discs that can be shot out at attacking aliens. One of the most popular accessories is the jet pack, manufactured in purple vinyl that is easily wiped clean.
When your child-Buzz is ready to attach the jet pack to his costume you will need to inflate it so that it resembles the purple wings. Without the jet pack poor Buzz would not be able to cry out his well-known phrase, "To Infinity and Beyond!"
Another essential accessory are the gauntlets: these are white gloves with long cuffs, all edged in the traditional light green that is the Buzz Lightyear trademark, and with purple stripes across the knuckles and over the fingertips. Finally, what else would Buzz Lightyear need but a pair of wraparound goggles to keep his eyes safe while he is in space.
Manufactured in clear green plastic, the visor is set into white plastic, in a style that wraps right around the head. These rather stylish eyepiece additions are elegantly edged in red and white stripes, with bright blue inset amongst the white at the sides and back of the goggles.
All these accessories are beautifully made and have all been created to match the style of the Buzz Lightyear costume, a lovely and comfortable outfit to wear as a fancy dress outfit for Halloween or for any other party where dressing up is a mandatory requirement.
